The information regarding Epic Mickey 2 has been taken down, but according to Stitch Kingdom the game will release on Wii, PS3 and Xbox 360 this fall, featuring co-op gameplay, exactly as we heard this summer. Considering how well Epic Mickey sold, it’d be difficult for Disney to justify not making a sequel.
Ever since the release of the PlayStation Move, PS3 owners with the peripheral have wanted to see Epic Mickey release on the HD console - especially after the rumors of a re-release - and now it seems they may just get their wish - if this turns out to be true, of course. With the game also supposedly releasing on the Xbox 360 it will be interesting to see if Disney plans to incorporate Kinect into the game in any way. Considering their support of the Xbox 360 device with Kinect Disneyland Adventures, that’s almost a certainty.
A few months back, reports had stated that Disney sent out a survey regarding Epic Mickey 2, to guage interest in the title and co-op gameplay. At this point it seems pretty safe to say that the title is in production, especially since the same text from that survey is what showed up in the newsletter a few days ago:
We had our issues with the original - read our Epic Mickey review for the details - but we still recommended it and see the potential in a sequel if they expand on the good parts and rectify the problems. Bringing better graphics by taking the game to the stronger consoles should help the franchise explode, especially if it makes strong use of Kinect and the Move.
