Khu did share information about the type combinations of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet’s starters, with Sprigatito being allegedly Grass/Dark, Fuecoco Fire/Ghost, and Quaxly being Water/Fighting. However, fans also want to know how these Pokemon look, and Khu now shared some hints about the themes and middle stages of the starters after the cropped pictures of Sprigatito’s and Quaxly’s evolutions appeared online. In another tweet, Khu also finally revealed what the so-called “Regional Fakes” are.

Regional Fakes are seemingly Pokemon that have almost identical facial features compared to existing critters, but they are entirely different species that also have different types. This concept was first shared by Khu after the alleged leak of Diglett’s regional form, which was a massive Water-type Diglett with blue hues. In response to a Pokemon Scarlet and Violet fan discussing what the Regional Fakes could be, Khu said that there is an eel Pokemon that behaves like Diglett and even has its face, but it’s a separate species with its own Pokedex number.
Another alleged leak from Khu describes the middle stage evolution of Fuecoco and shares the themes behind the evolutions for Sprigatito and Quaxly. Pokemon Scarlet and Violet will seemingly have Fuecoco evolve into a crocodile with a flaming egg on its head, which matches the description Khu gave in the past few weeks about Fuecoco’s final evolution having a chicken on its head. As for Sprigatito, the Grass-type kitty’s evolution will have a mask on its face, and it will look a bit like a thief, whereas Quaxly embodies the themes of dancing and the peacock – likely meaning that its tail will grow bigger when it evolves.
A recent leak also confirmed that Pokemon Scarlet and Violet will have DLC, much like Pokemon Sword and Shield, and this might add to the Regional Fakes by introducing even more of these Pokemon. As for the starters, the official images will likely appear online much closer to the release date, meaning that players shouldn’t expect them prior to October, at the very least.
Pokemon Scarlet and Violet release for Nintendo Switch on November 18, 2022.
