Wayne Rooney has played his way back into favor with Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho and is no longer in danger of being moved in January, according to The Sun.
He may be club captain at Old Trafford, but the England international recently took in a five-game spell on the bench as his boss explored other options.
The Red Devils failed to spark in his absence, but speculation quickly mounted regarding an imminent exit for the 31-year-old forward – with China and Major League Soccer mooted as possible destinations.
Rooney has, however, maintained throughout that he has no desire to move on after 12 years on United’s books and has knuckled down in training in an effort to convince Mourinho of his worth.
That dedication looks set to be rewarded, with an impressive showing against Swansea City prior to the international break suggesting that he still has plenty left in the tank.
Mourinho reportedly is prepared to buy into that way of thinking and will find a part for Rooney to play over the coming weeks – with his contract at the club due to run until 2019.
