Gareth Southgate reportedly is set to be appointed the England manager on a permanent basis — but only if the Three Lions beat rival Scotland in November.

That is according to the Daily Mirror, which claims Football Association chiefs have been impressed with Southgate, despite England’s disappointing draw in Slovenia on Tuesday.

The FA is said to be pleased with the 46-year-old’s handling of the Wayne Rooney situation as well as his decisiveness in making the huge call to drop the England captain. And the former Middlesbrough boss could be officially appointed if he can mastermind a victory over Scotland in a World Cup qualifier next month.

England is currently on top of Group F, having taken four points from three games.
