Luiz completed a medical on Thursday at Brazil’s World Cup training base after PSG’s medical personnel were given the green light to jet over to South America.

A fee of around £48 million has been agreed between the two clubs, with personal terms not expected to be an issue.

The London club are looking to reinvest a portion of the Luiz money and strengthen their midfield. Besides Pogba, Tottenham Hotspur’s Paulinho and Atletico Madrid’s Koke have emerged as possible targets for Jose Mourinho.

Pogba has stated a desire to remain at the runaway Serie A champions, despite his agent’s (Mino Raiola) allusions to the contrary.

A return to the Premier League for the former Manchester United player would doutbless be a tough pill to swallow for Red Devils’ fans.

Following the French teenage’s acrimonious departure from Old Trafford, Sir Alex Ferguson reproached him for a perceived lack of respect.

“It is disappointing. I don’t think he showed us any respect at all, to be honest. I’m quite happy that if they (footballers) carry on that way, they’re probably better doing it away from us.”
