The Reds are said to be close to an agreement with Berisha and are believed to have beaten off competition from Real Madrid for the rising star.
Brendan Rodgers has tracked the striker for months, and made his move after the youngster starred as top scorer at last month’s Under-17s World Cup.
Talks are now ongoing with his club, Halmstads. Berisha has turned down trials with Arsenal and Manchester United recently and Rodgers has been impressed enough to offer the chance of a swift progression into his squad.
And that looks likely to tip the balance in favour of the English club, despite interest in the exciting forward from the likes of Juventus, Inter Milan and Spurs.
Real Madrid have apparently made enquiries about his availability, but even though the Berisha’s been dubbed the ‘next Ibrahimovic’ has always been a fan of the Spanish giants, he believes the Premier League will be best for his development.
“The most important is the football education, I believe England would be the best option,” said the striker.
“I have rejected clubs like Arsenal and Manchester United, who have invited me for trials.
“There is Real Madrid now, the club of my dreams – I am keen to go there, but I think I will turn it down, unfortunately.”
Berisha was the star of the recent Under-17 World Cup and scored a hat-trick against Argentina in the third-fourth play-off.
