The 25-year-old’s demand in Spain has fallen following the £86 million arrival of Gareth Bale, and United are believed to be willing to spend €21 million (£17.6m) to acquire the Argentine.
However, Di Maria’s release clause is believed to stand closer to €50 million (£41m), which means the transfer saga may yet defer.
