Landon Donovan has played a majority of his career back in the States with Major League Soccer side Los Angeles Galaxy with loan spells at German Giants Bayern Munich and English Premier League side Everton (twice).
Playing as a winger and a striker he has represented his country a record 157 times scoring a record 57 goals as well. Donovan is one of the only three American players to score in two different World Cups.
In America, Donovan won four MLS Cups with LA Galaxy adding to his two won with San Jose Earthquakes. On a personal level, he won the Golden Ball at the 1999 U-17 World Championships and was awarded the best young player for the 2002 FIFA World Cup.
Although he retired at the end of last season’s MLS, Donovan is only 33 and could be instrumental in the Atletico’s fortunes this season. In his professional career, he has played over 600 matches for club and country and his experience could be important in Atletico’s ISL title defence.
The Champions of the inaugural Indian Super League are yet to sign a marquee player and with the deadline approaching fast they are running out of time. If given an option between Drogba and Donavan who would you like the Champions to opt in for?
